Mallards Sign a Pair of Spartans

Madison, WI - The Mallards have announced the signing of a Mountain West Conference duo for the 2019 Season. Johnny Mendoza (Sunnyvale, CA) and Drew Williams (Hollister, CA) will be headed to Madison after their spring season.

Mendoza, a 5-foot-7 junior, appeared in 49 games last spring, starting 45 of those games behind the plate. He led the Mountain West Conference in runners caught stealing with 20. He finished the season batting .288, driving in 34 runs on 46 hits. Mendoza has had a productive 2019 season so far. He started in the first six games, and is hitting .318 with six RBIs and four runs scored. Along with the rest of the team, Mendoza had an offensive explosion against Santa Clara with four RBI's, two runs, and four hits, one of which included a three-bagger.

Williams is entering his first season with the Spartans in 2019. A 6-foot-1 sophomore, Williams spent his first season with the University of California Santa Barbara Gauchos. He racked up 28 hits in 36 appearances, with 15 RBIs and crossed the plate 16 times. In his high school career at San Benito High School (Hollister, CA) he led the team to a league title three out of four years and was honored his junior year as league MVP.

The Mallards open the 2019 campaign on May 28 against newcomers to the Northwoods League, the Kokomo Jackrabbits. Single game tickets will go on sale April 27.
