Mallards Host Growlers in Second-Half Opener
July 1, 2015 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Madison Mallards News Release
Madison, Wis. - Narrowly missing a South Division title in the first half of the 2015 Northwoods League regular season, field manager Donnie Scott and the Madison Mallards (0-0, 20-15) will look to begin their second-half schedule on a high note when they host the Kalamazoo Growlers (0-0, 8-25) Wednesday night at the Duck Pond. Tonight will be South Central Library Systems Reading Night, Delton Grand Wisconsin Dells Night and Rayovac Night at Warner Park, featuring 1,000 Dells Coupon books and hotel stay giveaways. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
On Monday, the Mallards dropped the first tilt of their road double-header with the La Crosse Loggers (19-15) by a 6-5 margin before witnessing the second game of the twin-bill be rescheduled due to rain. Cameron Frost (Washington State) attempted to fuel a comeback for the Mallards in La Crosse, going 2-for-4 with a home run, four runs batted in and a run scored, though his effort eventually fell short. With victories from Green Bay and Kenosha, Madison finished the first half of the season in third place in the South Division with a .571 winning percentage.
After a first half of the season that included strong pitching from the rotation and bullpen, the Mallards tonight will turn to Dalton D'Spain (Texas A&M Corpus Christi) to start game one of their second-half schedule. The first half of the season saw the 6-foot-1 right-hander post a 3-1 record with a 2.73 ERA, 1.18 WHIP, 30:13 strikeout-to-walk ratio and .191 opponent batting average across appearances (26.1 IP). D'Spain enters tonight's contest on the heels of a six-inning shutout performance June 25 against Wisconsin Rapids, one that included nine strikeouts and just two hits.
Wednesday's Roster Moves - The Mallards have waved infielders Chris Tschida (Western Illinois), Jed Sprague (Pacific) and Jake Roberts (Yakima Valley CC). Joining Madison's roster this evening will be outfielder Ro Coleman (Vanderbilt), infielder Charlie Cody (Virginia) and catcher Bryce Carter (Stanford).
