Mallards get Michael Ford in trade with Kalamazoo

Moline, IL – The Quad City Mallards of the United Hockey League have acquired right wing Michael Ford from the Kalamazoo Wings, in exchange for forward Brian Bolf and rookie defenseman Lubos Velebny. Quad City also receives Kalamazoo's second round pick in the 2004 UHL North American Amateur Draft. Mallards President/General Manager Howard Cornfield made the announcement today.

The deal was completed on the last day trades were allowed, as the UHL trade deadline passed at 2:00 p.m. (Central time).

The 26-year-old Ford, in his fourth pro season out of Michigan State University, brings some size to the wing position, at 6-foot-1 and 204 pounds. In 46 games with the Wings this season, he scored 15 points on six goals and nine assists. He attended training camp with the American Hockey League's Cleveland Barons.

Ford led Kalamazoo with 29 goals last season, to go with 18 assists, for 47 points. The Vernon, British Columbia, native was in his third season with the Wings, after playing his rookie year of 1999-2000 with the Birmingham Bulls of the East Coast Hockey League.

Bolf scored 25 points, on ten goals and 15 assists, in 50 games with the Mallards this season. Velebny had two assists in 39 games.
