MALLARDS NOTES
Last Game
Shawn Szydlowski scored one goal and added two assists and Mike Cazzola piled up four assists as the host Fort Wayne Komets broke open a close game with four unanswered third period goals on the way to a 5-1 victory over the Mallards Saturday night.
Streak
The Mallards have lost four straight games. That skid is the Mallards' longest regulation losing streak since they dropped four in a row between January 17 and January 29, 2016. The Mallards last endured more than four consecutive regulation losses when they were defeated in five straight International Hockey League games between January 16 and January 24, 2010.
Four
The Mallards have suffered four-goal losses in each of their last three games. The Mallards matched their largest margin of defeat this season in each of those three games after losing by four goals twice in their prior 30 games. Four of the Mallards' five four-goal defeats have come at the hands of Fort Wayne.
Red Light District
The Mallards have been outscored 15-5 over the course of their four-game losing streak. The Mallards are now tied for sixth in the ECHL in goals against per game (2.9). They have scored just once in their last two games and are now tied for twenty-first in the ECHL in goal scoring (2.9 per game).
On the Road
The Mallards have lost back-to-back road games. The Mallards do boast a better record on the road (11-7-0) than at home (7-6-2).
Home Sweet Home
The Mallards have lost back-to-back home games. They kick off a four-game homestand Friday night against Indy.
First
The Mallards have given up the first goal in 11 of their last 13 games.
Third
The Mallards have been outscored 8-0 in the third period over their last three games. They matched a single period season high when they gave up four goals in the third period last Saturday in Fort Wayne.
Undermanned
Due to injuries and call-ups, the Mallards dressed just 17 players- instead of the standard 18- for last Saturday's game in Fort Wayne. The Mallards found themselves short after injury last week sidelined top goal scorer Michael Parks and captain Chris Francis while defenseman Jake Baker (Manitoba) and all-star goaltender C.J. Motte (Charlotte) were called up to the American Hockey League.
Brady's Bunch
Brady Brassart has recorded five points (two goals and three assists) in his last five games.
On the Plus Side
Kevin Gibson is tied for eighth in the ECHL in plus/minus rating (+16).
Debut
Ned Lukacevic made his Mallard debut last Saturday against Fort Wayne after signing with the team December 28.
Between the Pipes
Adam Vay has started three straight games in goal. Motte, who last Tuesday signed a professional tryout agreement with the AHL's Charlotte Checkers, still ranks second in the ECHL in goals against average (2.25) and save percentage (.931) and is tied for ninth in wins (11).
Milestones
Mike Wilson has 198 career regular season assists...Sam Warning has played 98 career games.
Power Play
The Mallards have failed to convert their last 14 power plays, have enjoyed success just once in their last twenty-three advantages and have scored on just two of their last 31 power plays. The Mallards rank nineteenth in the ECHL on the power play (13.8 percent).
Penalty Killing
The Mallards have allowed four goals on their opponents' last 11 power plays. The Mallards are tied for thirteenth in the ECHL in penalty killing (83.6 percent).
Head-to-Head
The Mallards this season have gone 3-2-1 against the Cyclones and have gone 3-1-0 in four games at U.S. Bank Arena. All time, the Mallards have gone 8-9-2 overall against Cincinnati and 5-3-0 on the road against the Cyclones.
Ins and Outs
The Mallards signed forward John Siemer to a standard player contract today...Forward Michael Parks missed last Saturday's game (upper body injury)...Defenseman Jake Baker was recalled by Manitoba (AHL) last Saturday...Forward Chris Francis has missed the Mallards' last two games (upper body injury)...Defenseman Mike Wilson has missed the Mallards' last 11 games (upper body injury).
