Quad City Mallards News Release

Moline, IL-Quad City Mallards President and General Manager Howard Cornfield today announced that defenseman Les Borsheim has been signed for the 2004-05 season. Borsheim is a third-year pro with 94 games of pro experience. He is currently recovering from an injury suffered in camp with the American League's Milwaukee Admirals. Borsheim's return date has not been set.

Borsheim is regarded as one of the toughest players in double-A hockey while also standing out on the blueline. He recorded 250 penalty minutes as a rookie with the Oklahoma City Blazers during the 2002-03 season. Last season, in just 16 Central League games, the 6-foot-2, 210-pound rearguard recorded 67 penalty minutes.

Borsheim made his American League debut last season with the Philadelphia Phantoms. He appeared in 16 games with the Phantoms recording an assist and 19 penalty minutes.

Borsheim played junior hockey in the Western League with the Brandon Wheat Kings. He appeared in 157 games over four WHL seasons. Borsheim recorded 43 points on 15 goals and 28 assists. Borsheim also rang up 372 penalty minutes in his time as a Wheat King.

"Les is not only tough, he is a solid defenseman who can play at the next level," said Cornfield. "We will be anxious to get him healthy and into the line-up."
