'Dogs neutral site games moved to Roanoke

November 4, 2004 - International Hockey League 2 (IHL 2) - Richmond RiverDogs News Release

Richmond, VA – The Richmond RiverDogs of the United Hockey League will face the Motor City Mechanics Friday, April 8 and Saturday, April 9 at the Roanoke Civic Center. Game time both nights will be 7:35. These games were originally slated for Baltimore.

The ‘Dogs played a pre-season game vs. the Missouri River Otters in Roanoke in October. That contest drew over 3,000 fans. The UHL is looking at Roanoke as a potential market for the 2005/’06 season.

“We were very pleased with the preseason game that was played in Roanoke in October,” stated Richard Brosal UHL President/CEO. “The city, arena, and fans have shown great interest in our league. The UHL challenged the city to acquire 1,000 season ticket deposits, and they have already achieved half of that amount. We will continue to work with the city of Roanoke and the Civic Center to construct a lease and work towards putting a UHL team in Roanoke for the 2005-06 season.”

The Richmond RiverDogs will call Roanoke home for two evenings. The team will also wear special jerseys with “Roanoke” on the sleeve. “We really appreciated how well the teams were treated during the preseason game and the RiverDogs organization wants to do whatever it takes to help bring hockey back to Roanoke,” stated RiverDogs General Manager, Jeff Croop.

Tickets for the two April contests will go on sale Friday, November 26th at the Roanoke Civic Center box office. Fans can call 888-397-3100 to order tickets. Fans can also place a $25 refundable 2005-06 season ticket deposit by calling the same number. The final date to place this deposit is December 5th. • The ‘Dogs return home Friday, November 12 at 7:35 vs. the Motor City Mechanics. It is “Re-cycling Night” with Central Virginia Waste Management Authority.
