Quad City Mallards News Release

Moline, IL-Quad City Mallards President and General Manager Howard Cornfield today announced the signings of forward Lenny Hofmann and defenseman Sam Phillips. The pair spent their entire college careers as teammates with the St. Mary's (MN) Cardinals of the NCAA Division III's Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC), the same league that produced Mallards star Martin Hlinka.

Hofmann led the Cardinals in scoring last season with 33 points (14 goals and 19 assists) in 25 games. The 5-foot-11, 165 pound forward finished fifth in the MIAC in scoring with 20 points (7 goals and 13 assists) in 15 conference games. Hofmann was named to the All-MIAC First Team for his efforts during his senior year. During his four years at St. Mary's, the Sartell, Minnesota native recorded 93 points (36 goals and 57 assists) in 96 games.

Phillips, a 6-foot-2, 215 pound defenseman, was named an assistant captain for the Cardinals as a senior last season. He scored two goals and added 12 assists for 14 points, good for second amongst St. Mary's defensemen. The native of Red Wing, Minnesota led St. Mary's defensemen in scoring twice during his collegiate career including his Freshman season when he rang up a goal and 11 assists for 12 points. Phillips finished his college career with 47 points (seven goals and 40 assists) in 93 games.

"Lenny is a very talented offensive player and Sammy is a physical stay-at-home defenseman," said Cornfield. "They are both strong additions to our rookie class and come highly recommended by former Mallards star Scott Bell."

The Mallards begin their tenth anniversary season this fall at The MARK of the Quad Cities. Season tickets are available via the Mallards ticket office at (309) 764-7825. For the latest Mallards news and ticket information, visit www.qcmallards.com.
