Quad City Mallards News Release

Moline, IL-Quad City Mallards President and General Manager Howard Cornfield today announced the signing of center Jason Deskins. The hard-nosed Deskins begins his third season of pro hockey this fall with the Mallards. He comes to the Quad Cities from the Dayton Bombers of the ECHL.

Deskins is known for his offensive abilities including a knack for scoring shorthanded. During the 2003-04 season, Deskins led the ECHL in shorthanded goals with six. He led Dayton in goals with 24 and finished second on the Bombers roster with 50 points in 65 games. Along with leading the league in shorthanded goals, Deskins finished second in the circuit in shorthanded points with seven. His efforts earned Deskins a call up to the American Hockey League's Syracuse Crunch in January.

The 5-foot-11, 185 pound pivot has appeared in 124 games over two full seasons in pro hockey. He began his career late in the 2001-02 season by making one regular season and seven postseason appearances with the ECHL's Trenton Titans. Deskins split 2002-03 with three ECHL teams (Trenton, Arkansas and Dayton). He finished his rookie season with 12 goals and 16 assists for 28 points.

Deskins played four full seasons of collegiate hockey with the Miami (OH) University Redhawks. Deskins finished his college career with 62 goals and 62 assists for 124 points in 148 games. He is tied for fifth on Miami's all-time game-winning goals list with seven. He is also tied for fifth on Miami's career list in shorthand goals with four.

"Jason is the aggressive, character player that we want on our team this year," said Cornfield. "He's very intense and not afraid to get involved. We expect him to have a breakout season this year."

Deskins signing, along with today's addition of rookies Lenny Hofmann and Sam Phillips, brings the total number of Mallards under contract for 2004-05 to nine including seven forwards (Jeff Doyle, Drew Otten, Marty Standish, Mike Burgoyne, Ojay Hehr, Deskins and Hofman), a defenseman (Phillips) and a goaltender (Jeff Reynaert).

The Mallards begin the home portion of their tenth anniversary season on October 30th vs. Kansas City at The MARK of the Quad Cities. Season tickets are available via the Mallards ticket office at (309) 764-7825. For the latest Mallards news and ticket information, visit www.qcmallards.com.
