Mallards Acquire Shawn Smith from Flags

Moline, IL- Quad City Mallards Head Coach and General Manager Brian Curran announced today that the team has acquired defenseman Shawn Smith from the Port Huron Flags to complete the trade that sent defenseman Jason Jaworski and forward Noah Whyte to the Flags yesterday. Smith is a rookie defenseman who spent his amateur career at Augsburg College.

Smith has appeared in 14 UHL games this season split between the Fort Wayne Komets and the Port Huron Flags. He was held scoreless in seven appearances with the Komets and recorded three points (two goals and an assist) in seven games with the Flags. He recorded a goal 29 seconds into the Flags 4-3 win over the Mallards Sunday afternoon at The MARK.

In 72 games over three seasons at Augsburg College, Smith recorded five goals with 28 assists for 33 points with 96 penalty minutes. He recorded a high for assists (12) and points (13) during his first season at Augsburg (2000-01). During his final collegiate season (2002-03), Smith reached a high in goals with three.

The Mallards continue a four-game home stand on Friday vs. Elmira. Game time is 7:00 p.m. and the first 3,000 fans in attendance will receive a team photograph courtesy of Swiss Valley Farms.

Saturday, the Mallards host Rockford at 5:00 p.m. on Genesis Jersey Auction Night. This year's jersey features a race car theme. After the game, the jerseys will be auctioned off with proceeds benefiting Genesis Medical Center, Illini Campus. Other special items up for auction include a Detroit Red Wings jersey signed by former Mallards Head Coach and current Detroit Assistant Coach Paul MacLean and a Home Depot Racing Jacket signed by NASCAR Nextel Cup Champion Tony Stewart.
