February 27, 2019 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
LA Galaxy News Release
LOS ANGELES - Malea Emma, the 7-year-old anthem singer that shocked the world with her performance at an LA Galaxy game last September, will return to Dignity Health Sports Park this weekend. Malea Emma will sing the national anthem ahead of the LA Galaxy's Home Opener against Chicago Fire on Saturday, March 2 at 5 p.m. PT (FOX, Fox Deportes).
Malea Emma initially went viral after her national anthem performance on the LA Galaxy's nationally televised match on Sept. 23, 2018 vs. Seattle Sounders FC. Malea Emma earned the chance to sing the national anthem after winning a social media contest ran by the LA Galaxy in the week leading up to the match, with Galaxy fans voting for Malea Emma to perform from a group of finalists.
Malea Emma went viral almost immediately after her performance, and in the days following, was featured in over 600 TV clips and 1,500 online news stories. She was featured on ABC World News Tonight, NBC's The Today Show, CNN's New Day, ABC's Good Morning America, On Air with Ryan Seacrest, LIVE with Kelly and Ryan, American Idol, Google's Year in Review and many more.
Since going viral, Malea Emma has performed the national anthem for MLS Cup, the Los Angeles Lakers, Golden State Warriors, Los Angeles Clippers, LA Kings, UCLA Men's Basketball and more.
Malea Emma's performance will complement a historic day in LA Galaxy history. Ahead of the game, the Galaxy will unveil a David Beckham statue before inducting him into the club's Ring of Honor at halftime. Limited tickets to the match remain available for purchase here.
