Makway Sent to Rio Grande Valley

(Southaven, MS) -- The Mississippi RiverKings of the Central Hockey League (CHL) have sent defenseman Steve Makway to the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees in exchange for future considerations.

The Trail, British Columbia, Canada native finished his third season in the CHL with the Mississippi RiverKings last year. He played in the 2006-07 season with the Memphis RiverKings and his first CHL appearance came with the Laredo Bucks in the 2004-05 season.

Makway has also played professionally in the United Hockey League with the Missouri River Otters and the Flint Generals in the 2005-06 season.

With the RiverKings, Makway finished second on the roster in plus-minus in both seasons he played at the DCC. Makway led the team with 192 PIM in 2006-07 and finished fourth in that category last season with 147.

In 58 UHL games with Missouri and Flint, Makway compiled a total of five goals and 12 assists to go with 158 penalty minutes. All five goals came with the River Otters.

Makway came to the pro ranks after spending three years in the major junior Western Hockey League with Kootenay and Tri-City. He also spent one season of junior hockey (2003-04) in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League with the Battlefords North Stars, where he finished with eleven goals and 44 points in 36 appearances.
