HIDALGO, TEXAS --- The Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees of the Central Hockey League (CHL) today announced a trade with the Mississippi RiverKings that gives the Bees the rights to defenseman Steve Makway in exchange for future considerations.

A 6-foot-5, 230 pound defenseman, the Trail, British Columbia, native has played in 240 professional games in the CHL and former United Hockey League. He played for the Memphis/Mississippi RiverKings for the past two seasons and finished second on the team in plus-minus each year. He led the team with 192 PIM in 2006-07 and finished fourth in that category last season with 147.

"I'm excited to have the rights to a player of Steve's caliber," Killer Bees Head Coach Chris Brooks said. "His size, leadership and the amount of minutes he can log will certainly be a great fit on our blue line. I look forward to getting him signed here."

Makway came to the pro ranks after spending three years in the major junior Western Hockey League with Kootenay and Tri-City. He also spent one season of junior hockey (2003-04) in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League with the Battlefords North Stars, where he finished with eleven goals and 44 points in 36 appearances.

The Bees open their sixth season at Dodge Arena on October 18 vs. the Rocky Mountain Rage. Season tickets are available now by calling 956-843-PUCK (7825).
