Majors Win a Wild One in Mississauga

Mississauga, Ont. (October 18, 2006) - It was a shootout in Mississauga tonight, with the Majors prevailing 7-6. Each squad received a hat trick, with the Majors edition coming courtesy of Justin Donati, and the IceDogs version supplied by Michael Swift. The Majors record now shifts to 6-6-0-0 while the IceDogs move to 7-2-0-1.

The IceDogs got on the board first, with a power-play tally from Swift at 5:55, off of Kyle Lamb and Nathan Martine feeds. Donati tied up the game, also on the man-advantage, at 7:42, with Matt Piva and Kaspars Daugavins getting credited with the helpers. Stefan Legein's unassisted effort at 9:53 gave the IceDogs a 2-1 lead. However, Donati pulled the Majors even at 17:02, with another power-play goal, off of Daugavins and Rob Kwiet passes.

It was the same scenario in the middle frame as the Majors went ahead at the 4:15 mark, the IceDogs grabbed 2 quick goals at 5:37 and 7:40 to claim their own 4-3 advantage, and the Majors drew even at 9:09. The goalscorers were Swift and Travis Fuller for the IceDogs and Donati and Jason Cassidy for St. Mike's. The assists went to Lamb and Josh Day of Mississauga and Donati, Cassidy Preston and Troy Murray of Toronto.

In the 3rd period, the Majors produced 3 quick goals to go out in front 7-4 before the IceDogs notched 2 of their own to make it a 1-goal game. In the end, it was a hard-fought, 7-6 Majors victory. The Majors goalscorers in the 3rd were Donati, Kwiet and Matt Caria with the helpers going to Daugavins, Piva, Micheal Haley, Matt McCready and Mike Pelech. The IceDogs goalscorers were Legein (shorthanded) and Swift, with the assists coming courtesy of Lamb, Jadran Beljo and Alex Pietrangelo.

Andrew Loverock went the distance between the pipes for the IceDogs, turning aside 32 shots. Chris Carrozzi got the start for the Majors but was pulled after allowing 4 goals on 29 shots. Wayne Savage came on to make 29 stops.

The Majors were 3 for 8 on the power-play while the IceDogs were 2 for 10. The game's three stars were Swift (1st), Donati (2nd) and Daugavins (3rd).

The Majors visit the Kitchener Rangers on Friday night at 7:30 pm before returning home to entertain the Barrie Colts on Sunday afternoon (October 22) at 2 pm. Both games will be available via webcast at www.stmichaelsmajors.com.
