Mississauga St. Michael's Majors News Release

A trait of a good captain is being able to lead by example, and Stuart Percy did just that on Sunday night as the Mississauga St. Michael's Majors pulled out a 6-4 win over the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds in Ontario Hockey League play.

Percy notched a goal and three assists for a four point night - the first of his OHL career - to give the Majors a much needed pair of points to end their weekend northern swing. The Majors were dealt a 3-0 loss to the Niagara IceDogs on Thursday night followed by a 4-3 regulation loss to the Sudbury Wolves on Friday before picking up the victory Sunday.

Mississauga improves it's record to 12-8-1-3 for 28 points and fourth spot in the Eastern Conference. They trail the Brampton Battalion by just one point for the Central Division lead, and will have a shot to take over first in the division when the two teams meet at the Hershey Centre for a School Day Game at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, November 23.

The Majors boasted a well-rounded attack on Sunday night and General Manager/Head Coach James Boyd was pleased with his team's efforts in a tough road rink.

"Our compete level was where it needed to be playing in a very difficult environment. It's never easy to win a game in this building," Boyd said.

"Our execution level was also much better on the attack tonight. I thought we did a lot of good things in the offensive zone and took advantage of our chances. We had contributions from a lot of different players."

Along with Percy, Joseph Cramarossa (one goal, two assists), Jamie Wise (one goal, one assist), and Riley Brace (one goal, one assist) each chipped in with multi-point games. Defenceman Dylan DeMelo and forward Jordan Mayer put up impressive numbers of their own, as they finished with +6 and +5 ratings, respectively.

JP Anderson tended goal for the Majors and earned his ninth win of the season, stopping 24 of 28 shots he faced. Jack Campbell took the loss in goal for the Soo, allowing five goals on 33 shots.

Wise opened the scoring just 1:18 into the game with his fifth goal of the season - a career high for the 20-year-old Stouffville native - from Percy and Brace to give the Majors an early 1-0 lead. Dylan Staples tied the game just 1:05 later before DeMelo put the Majors up for good with his fifth goal of the campaign assisted by Percy and Cramarossa at 17:16 to close out the first period scoring. The Majors led 9-8 in shots after the first period of play.

Cramarossa gave the Majors a 3-1 lead from Mayer at 14:40 of the second period before Colin Miller tallied the lone power play goal of the game for the Greyhounds at 17:14 to bring the Soo to within one. Percy restored the Majors two goal lead with just three seconds remaining in the middle frame, assisted by Cramarossa and Wise at 19:57 to give the Majors a 4-2 lead heading into the third. The Majors once again led in shots during the second period 13-11, and by a 12-9 margin in the third for a 34-28 total.

Third period scoring came in bunches late, as the Greyhounds once again got on the board from Brandon Alderson at 18:04 to cut the lead to 4-3, but Brace tallied his 13th of the year less than a minute later, assisted by Derek Schoenmakers and Percy at 18:45. Ryan Sproul kept the home team in it with a goal at 19:26, but Brett Foy cemented the win with an unassisted marker, his fourth of the year, with one second left to play into an empty net.

Each team had four chances with the man advantage, with Sault Ste. Marie capitalizing once for the lone power play goal of the game.

The Majors next game is Wednesday, November 23rd when they host the Brampton Battalion at 11 a.m. at the Hershey Centre. Tickets are still available at www.ticketmaster.ca, or by visiting the Hershey Centre box office.

The Majors commemorative Remembrance Day jerseys are available online through the CHL auction site at auction.chl.ca until Wednesday for those who would like to still place their bids. Portions of the proceeds from the auctions will support a Canadian Forces fundraising initiative.
