
Majors Roll Past Rangers in OT

Kitchener, ON - The Mississauga St. Michael's Majors went on the road to Kitchener tonight for a battle with the Rangers, and came away with a 5-4 overtime win over the home team. Forward Kaspars Daugavins got the game-winning goal in the extra frame to secure the win for the Majors. As a result, Mississauga's record jumps to 29-22-1-2 on the season.
Mississauga's Kale Kerbashian opened up the scoring with a goal coming 5:39 into the 1st period, while Josh McFadden and Mike Pelech provided the passes. Kitchener tied things up when Jeff Skinner connected at 9:51 off of a lone feed from Jason Akeson.
The Majors came back to gain a 2-1 lead, as Jordan Mayer wired a shot into the Rangers' net 2:34 into the 2nd period. Corey Bureau and Daugavins were the helpers. Mississauga continued to dominate the frame, as Riley Brace and Casey Cizikas each scored at 15:42 (power-play) and then at 16:17, respectively, to make it 4-1. Cizikas, Cameron Gaunce and Jared Gomes got the assists.
Then, Skinner got Kitchener back on the board early in the 3rd period at 3:56, with feeds coming from Chris MacKinnon and Akeson. MacKinnon and Tyler Randell battled back for the Rangers as each scored at 19:34, and then 8 seconds later, to knot the contest. The assists came from Dan Kelly, Robert Bortuzzo, Julian Cimadamore and MacKinnon.
Daugavins' shorthanded goal that came with only 17 seconds left in the overtime period helped secure the victory for Mississauga. The assists went to Pelech and Gaunce.
Chris Carrozzi started in net and turned aside 37 shots for the Majors, while Parker Van Buskirk and Mike Morrison combined to make 17 saves for the Rangers. Mississauga went 1 for 2 on the power-play, while Kitchener finished 0 for 3 on the night. The game's three stars were Skinner (1st), Cizikas (2nd) and MacKinnon (3rd).
The Majors present Paint The Rink Pink 2 this Friday night in partnership with the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation when they host the Barrie Colts at 7:30 p.m. Proceeds from tickets, sales and in-arena donations of that night will go toward the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. There will be a pre-game on-ice ceremony featuring special guests including Mississauga Mayor Hazel McCallion, Don Cherry and OHL Commissioner David Branch. There will be pink jerseys worn by Majors players, pink ice and a silent auction featuring pink hockey sticks. Mississauga will host the Sudbury Wolves on Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m.
The Majors Family Day game takes place this upcoming Monday afternoon when the Brampton Battalion visits the Hershey Centre at 1 p.m. It will also be Scouts Day at the game, as they celebrate Lord Baden Powell's birthday! Popular cartoon characters including Diego, Dora the Explorer, Spongebob Squarepants and Patrick will be available for a Meet and Greet with fans from 12-1 p.m., prior to the start of the game.
