Majors Overpower the Wolves in Sudbury

Sudbury, ON - The Mississauga St. Michael's Majors went on the road and battled hard this evening against the Sudbury Wolves, as they concluded the night with a 5-2 victory to end their recent losing streak. As a result, the Majors record moves to 8-10-0-1 on the year.

Mississauga's Ryan Lopes got things started, when he scored the only goal of the 1st period at 1:52 (unassisted) to put the visitors up 1-0. The shots on goal were 14-6 in favour of the Majors.

Then, Sudbury's Cory McGillis connected 1:45 (power-play) into the 2nd period off of passes from Tyler Sheldrake and John McFarland to tie things up. The Majors answered back, as Mike Pelech scored shortly after at 6:06 with help from Cameron Gaunce, to grab a 2-1 lead. However, Jared Staal wired a shot into the visitors' net at 18:12 on a man-advantage to knot the affair once more. The assists went to Patrik Lusnak and Matt Dias.

Mississauga powered ahead 4-2 in the 3rd period as Gaunce (unassisted) and Lopes each picked up a goal at 3:13 and at 5:34, respectively. The lone assist had gone to Devante Smith-Pelly. Jesse Messier collected the final goal of the night for the Majors at 12:25, off of a pass from Jared Gomes, to put the game away.

Chris Carrozzi started in net for the Majors and blocked 12 shots, while Andrew Loverock made 17 saves for the Wolves. Mississauga went 0 for 5 on the power-play, while Sudbury finished 2 for 7 on the night. The game's three stars were Lopes (1st), Messier (2nd) and McGillis (3rd).

The Majors close out the weekend on the road tomorrow night when they visit the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds at 7:30 p.m. All Majors road games are available via webcast at www.stmichaelsmajors.com. Mississauga will return home next Friday night to host the Oshawa Generals at 7:30 p.m.
