Mississauga St. Michael's Majors News Release
Mississauga, ON- The Mississauga St. Michael's Majors five game winning streak was snapped at the hands of the Kingston Frontenacs, 3-2 in overtime at the Hershey Centre. The loss drops the Majors record to 17-4-2-0 on the season.
The Majors came out strong in the first period with a number of chances; however it wasn't until eight minutes in that the first goal would be scored courtesy of Devante Smith-Pelly to make it 1-0 for Mississauga and close the opening period, where the Majors outshot the Frontenacs 21-6.
The second period didn't provide much as neither team was able to build up and attack. With just seconds remaining William Wallen wired a shot low glove side to beat Tyler Beskorowany and make it 2-0 for the Majors and end the second.
Kingston came out strong in the final 20 minutes, outshooting and creating more chances than the Majors. As been the case in the previous two meetings this season the Frontenacs were able to come back; and eventually tied the game courtesy of goals from Derek Froats and Ethan Werek.
Ethan Werek would be the hero on the night for Kingston when he scored just under three minutes into overtime on the power play to win the game for the Frontenacs and earn "First Star" honours. William Wallen and Tyler Beskorowany rounded out the "Top 3." Beskorowany made 38 saves and earns the victory for Kingston. Majors goaltender Chris Carrozzi wasn't as busy stopping 26 shots and takes the loss for Mississauga.
Derek Schoenmakers made his OHL debut tonight for the Majors. Schoenmakers was drafted in the 14th round of the 2008 OHL Entry Draft. He spent the first part of this season with the Kitchener Dutchmen of the GOJHL (Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League).
The Majors will host the Niagara Icedogs on Friday night at 7:30 and then travel back to Sudbury on Saturday to face the Wolves at 7:00 p.m. The Majors Holiday Packs are now available, for more information or to purchase a Holiday Pack contact the Majors office at (905) 502-7788 x.252.
