
Majors End Regular Season With Win

Mississauga St. Michael's Majors News Release
Mississauga, ON- The Mississauga St. Michael's Majors closed the regular season with a victory over the Niagara IceDogs, 2-1 this afternoon at the Hershey Centre. The Majors finish the regular season with a record of 42-20-4-2.
All the scoring took place in the second period in game that was more characteristic of the Majors. Mississauga supplied a physical game with strong defence and goaltending that helped grab two points from their arch rival. Matt Petgrave put Niagara ahead at 6:18 of the second period. Mitchell Theoret escaped a check along the boards and raced in on goal, Theoret then sent a cross ice pass to Petgrave for the tap-in to make it 1-0. Mississauga went on a power play and converted their advantage courtesy of Blake Parlett. William Wallen's initial shot was saved by IceDogs goaltender Mark Visentin, the rebound went onto the stick of Jordan Mayer, Mayer then passed to Blake Parlett who rushed in from the point to tie it up at 1-1. Jordan Mayer scored his team leading 31st goal of the season at 18:09 of the second to make it 2-1 for Mississauga. Mayer banged in the rebound off a shot from Stuart Percy. The third period saw more physical play and more big saves from JP Anderson and Mark Vistentin. Both goalies earned a spot in the top three. Jordan Mayer was the games' "First Star." JP Anderson made 28 saves and earned the victory for Mississauga. Mark Vistentin stopped 34 shots in a losing effort.
The Majors now know they will face the Peterborough Petes in round one of the 2010 OHL Eastern Conference Quarter-Finals, beginning on Friday night in Mississauga. The schedule is as follows:
Game 1: Friday March 19- in Mississauga at 7:00 or 7:30 p.m. (To be confirmed)
Game 2: Monday March 22- in Peterborough at 7:00 p.m.
Game 3: Tuesday March 23- in Mississauga at 7:00 p.m.
Game 4: Thursday March 25- in Peterborough at 7:00 p.m.

*Game 6: Sunday March 28- in Peterborough at 7:00 p.m.

Notes: The win also breaks a franchise record for points in a season. The 2001-2002 Majors finished with 89 points, today the mark was broken as this year's team finished with 90 points. Another franchise mark was set as the team broke the fewest goals against with 175 this season. That broke the 2001-2002 record of 177 conceded. Overage players Dustin Ekelman and Blake Parlett played in their final regular season OHL game today. T.J. Battani is the Majors third overager but was out of the line-up.
