Mississauga St. Michael's Majors News Release

Mississauga ON - The Mississauga St. Michael's Majors came close to a win against the Windsor Spitfires at home tonight but unfortunately gave up two goals in the final frame, and closed out the night with a 5-4 loss. As a result, the Majors record dips to 7-9-0-0 on the year.

Mississauga's Jared Gomes got the 1st period started with his goal coming at 6:24 on a man-advantage with help from Casey Cizikas and Mike Pelech. But, Windsor quickly answered back when Dale Mitchell and Conor O'Donnell each connected at 7:52 (power-play) and at 8:52, respectively, to double up the Majors. Windsor's Andrei Loktionov, Rob Kwiet, Ben Dubois and Richard Greenop were the helpers. Then, Greg Nemisz scored for the Spitfires at 10:20 to round out the frame, while the assists went to Taylor Hall and Austin Watson.

However, the Majors offence began to click in the 2nd period as Jordan Mayer collected a goal at 4:29 off of a pass from Anthony Tapper, and another tally at 15:23 with help from Blake Parlett, to tie the game. With only 7 seconds left in the frame, Tapper jammed the puck into the Spitfires net to put the home squad up 4-3. Riley Brace and Ryan Lopes got the assists.

Unfortunately, the Majors were forced to give up the lead, as Windsor found their legs again in the 3rd period when Ryan Ellis and Loktionov each scored a power-play goal at 11:38, and at 16:57, to put the game away. The assists came courtesy of Loktionov, Kwiet (2 assists) and Hall.

Despite the loss, Chris Carrozzi was stellar in net and turned aside 47 shots for the Majors. Andrew Engelage made 26 saves for the Spitfires. Mississauga went 1 for 7 on the power-play, while Windsor finished 3 for 9. The game's three stars were Loktionov (1st), Carrozzi (2nd) and Mayer (3rd).

The Majors welcome the London Knights to the Hershey Centre this Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. Then, Mississauga will host the inaugural School Day Game on Wednesday afternoon (November 12) at noon.
