Mississauga St. Michael's Majors News Release

Mississauga, ON- The Mississauga St. Michael's Majors couldn't continue the momentum into tonight's affair with the Saginaw Spirit and as a result, lost 4-2. The loss drops the Majors to 34-13-4-1 on the season.

Typical Majors games this season have seen a deadlocked 0-0 score line in the opening period however that was not the case tonight. Peter Hermenegildo got things started for Saginaw at 12:44 of the first to make it 1-0 Saginaw. Vincent Trocheck was pinned against the boards behind the Majors goal but managed to pass the puck to Hermenegildo, who was waiting alone in front of the net and he put it past Chris Carrozzi. Under five minutes later Michael Kantor whacked in a rebound after Carrozzi made a save off Jordan Skellett to make it 2-0 for the Spirit. Casey Cizikas pulled the Majors to within one with his twentieth goal of the season. Cizikas dove at and shot the puck past Edward Pasquale to make it 2-1 into the intermission.

The second period provided more drama as neither team could score on power play opportunities. After heavy pressure early in the period from Saginaw; it was the Majors tying the game courtesy of Blake Parlett. The veteran defenceman pinched in and shot the puck from the side of the net to tie the game, 2-2. The tie would be short lived as Jordan Swarz scored on the power play to make it 3-2 for Saginaw in the closing seconds of the period. The play started with a series of passes from Jordan Hill and Tyler Murovich and ended with Swarz shot over a sprawling Chris Carrozzi.

Saginaw would add one more from Vincent Trocheck, two minutes into the third making it 4-2 and that's how it would end. The Majors who broke an 0-for-20 slump on the power play last night in Barrie, failed to score on eight power play opportunities tonight. Edward Pasquale made 28 saves for Saginaw and takes the win. Chris Carrozzi made 26 saves for Mississauga and takes the loss, which was also his third straight.

With the loss the Majors also failed to clinch a playoff spot, however they will have an opportunity to punch their ticket tomorrow night when they head to Sudbury to face the Wolves at 7:00 p.m. Next Friday is Paint the Rink Pink 3 and on Family Day Monday (Feb.15) the Majors will be honouring Red Kelly as they retire his number three sweater into the rafters of the Hershey Centre.
