
Majors Defeat Frontenacs in Dramatic Fashion

Toronto, Ont. (November 2, 2006) - The St. Michael's Majors produced a thrilling, come-from-behind win over the Kingston Frontenacs this evening. Their three goals scored during the latter-half of the 3rd period proved to be the turning point as they skated off with a 5-4 win. As a result, they return to the .500 mark as their record improves to 9-9-0-0 on the year.
Peder Skinner scored for the Frontenacs only 1:09 into the game off of Bobby Nyholm and Bobby Bolt feeds. Matt Piva tied it up for the Majors with a shorthanded tally at 10:42, off of a pretty Kaspars Daugavins feed. However, Kingston jumped back out in front at 12:02 with Cory Emmerton lighting the lamp off of Chris Stewart and Bobby Hughes passes.
Matt Caria tied up the game for the Majors only 52 seconds into the middle frame when he scored off of Jason Cassidy and Steve Spade feeds. Yet, Nyholm's goal with only 47 seconds remaining in the 2nd period gave the visitors a 3-2 lead heading into the final frame. The lone assist went to Josh Brittain.
The Majors turned the game around with Cassidy even-strength goals at 10:24 and 15:29 of the 3rd period and a Caria shorthanded effort at 16:24. The assists were credited to Caria and Micheal Haley (2). Nathan Moon got the Frontenacs to within a goal with 1:27 remaining, off of Hughes and Emmerton passes. However, they couldn't come up with the equalizer.
Wayne Savage was stellar between the pipes for the Majors, turning aside 46 shots. Daryl Borden had 27 saves of his own for Kingston. The Majors were 0 for 4 on the power-play while the Frontenacs were 0 for 5. The game's three stars were Savage (1st), Caria (2nd) and Skinner (3rd).
The Majors finish the weekend by entertaining the Mississauga IceDogs on Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. The IceDogs beat the Majors 6-2 in Toronto on September 24 before the Majors returned the favour with a 7-6 win in Mississauga on October 18.
