Erie Otters News Release
The Erie Otters of the Ontario Hockey League head out onto the road this weekend as they make their annual trip to Northern Ontario to face off against the Sudbury Wolves on Friday and the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds on Sunday.
Both games can be heard live on 1330 Erie's ESPN Radio and on-line at www.ottershockey.com (presented by the James H. Cross Company). Friday's game gets underway with the pre-game show at 7:15 p.m. while Sunday's game starts with the pre-game at 6:45 p.m.
The Otters enter weekend action with a 3-11-0-2 record and coming off back-to-back home losses to the Owen Sound Attack to extend their current losing streak to three games.
Already without team captain Ryan O'Marra due to injury, the Otters also lost the services of Sean O'Connor, the team's leading scorer, who suffered a shoulder injury Friday. The extent of the damage and how long the veteran forward will be out of the line-up has yet to be determined.
The good news on the injury front is that second-year defenseman Anthony Peluso received medical clearance this week to return to action. The 17 year-old missed the start of the season due to a knee injury suffered in the off-season. Peluso is expected to make his season-debut Friday against the Wolves.
Second-year forward Nick Palmieri assumes the Otters scoring lead in the absence of O'Connor. The 17 year-old has registered eight goals and eight assists in 16 games this season. Defenseman Andrew Hotham and forward Justin Hodgman are tied for second in team scoring. Both have collected 13 points so far this season.
The Wolves own a 9-7-0-1 record through the opening 17 games of the season and are coming off a 7-4 win over Brampton on Saturday, their second straight victory and fifth in their last six games. Nick Foligno, selected 28th overall by the Ottawa Senators in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft, is the Wolves leading scorer with eight goals and 17 assists for 25 points in 15 games. The 18 year-old is tied for eighth in OHL scoring.
The Greyhounds are 7-8-0-2 (after a 5-4 home loss against Saginaw Wednesday) and are in the midst of a three-game home stand. Friday they host Brampton. Dustin Jeffrey is Sault Ste. Marie's leading scorer with 14 goals and 10 assists for 24 points in 16 games. The 18 year-old's 14 goals are tied for third most in the OHL.
The Otters next home game (the start of a three-game home stand) takes place Wednesday, November 8th against the Guelph Storm at 7:30 p.m. at the Tullio Arena. Tickets for the game are available at the Civic Center Box Office and all Erie-area TicketMaster locations. Saturday EMTA presents the Otters and the Sudbury Wolves at 7:30 p.m. at the Tullio Arena. Sunday the Windsor Spitfires pay a visit for a 6 p.m. contest.
