Mississauga St. Michael's Majors News Release

MISSISSAUGA, ON (December 28, 2005) - The Toronto St. Michael's Majors kicked off the 2nd half of the 2005-06 season in Mississauga this evening. It took them a little while to find their skating legs as they allowed the IceDogs to build up a 2-0 lead through two periods of play. However, they stormed back in the 3rd frame and tied the game up before eventually falling 3-2 courtesy of a shootout. Their record moves to 17-13-3-3 as a result.

Mississauga got their goals from Joshua Day and Jordan Owens at 5:14 and 11:22 of the 2nd period, respectively. The assists were credited to Andrew Marcoux and Jordan Grant. Cory Vitarelli and Justin Donati replied for the Majors at 7:00 and 8:27 (power-play) of the 3rd period, respectively. The helpers were given to Donati, Tyler Haskins (2) and Scott Lehman.

In the shootout, Donati, Haskins and Vitarelli were all denied by IceDogs netminder Kyle Knechtel while Owens scored for the IceDogs to seal the victory for the home squad. Knechtel and Wayne Savage were both solid between the pipes. As a result, the game's three stars were Knechtel (1st), Owens (2nd) and Savage (3rd). The Majors finished the night 1 for 5 on the power-play while the IceDogs were 0 for 6.

The Majors host the Brampton Battalion on Friday evening (December 30th) at 7:30 pm before heading back out on the road to battle the Belleville Bulls on Sunday afternoon (January 1st) at 2:00 pm.
