Mississauga St. Michael's Majors News Release
Toronto, Ont. (October 13, 2006) - The Majors have a fairly light weekend ahead of them, with only a home-and-home series with the Erie Otters filling their plate. However, they plan to make the most of their return to the St. Michael's College School Arena on Sunday afternoon, by suiting up in their 10th anniversary, commemorative jersey for the second time this season.
When the Majors tried on their baby-blue outfit for their home-opener on September 22, they beat the Oshawa Generals 4-3. The new-look was well-received by the fans in attendance. The 10th anniversary uniform will be worn during eight more home dates this season, which will be announced individually as the season progresses. Each time, a jersey will be raffled off to fans, including this Sunday.
The Majors visit the Otters tomorrow night (October 14) at 7:30 pm before returning home for their 2 pm tilt with Erie on Sunday. They're coming off a tough 7-2 loss in Brampton on Monday when they were forced to ice a depleted line-up due to injuries. At the time, they were riding high after beating the Peterborough Petes 6-3 in Toronto on Sunday afternoon. Newcomer Matt Piva provided 4 goals for the Majors on the weekend and rookie forward Kaspars Daugavins had 5 points.
The Otters have lost 7 games in a row, with 2 coming by way of a shootout. Their offence is led by veteran forward Ryan O'Marra, who was a member of the Canadian gold medal squad during the 2006 World Junior Hockey Championship. The Mississauga native will be hungry to lead his troops back into the win column.
The Majors will also be running a fan bus to their game in Mississauga next Wednesday night (October 18), which will be departing from St. Mike's Arena at 5:30 pm. Season ticketholders can board for free and all other fans can ride for only $5. There will be food, supplied by Pizza Pizza, available on the bus. It will be returning immediately following the game. Fans can sign-up in the Majors office this Sunday.
Majors flex and season ticket packages can be purchased through the team's office at 416-651-8228. Individual game tickets are also available through the Majors, by calling Ticketmaster at 416-872-5000, online at www.ticketmaster.ca or by stopping by the St. Michael's College School Arena box office within two hours of the puck drop.
