Mississauga St. Michael's Majors News Release

TORONTO, ON—The Toronto St. Michael's Majors are pleased to announce that they have acquired 18 year-old defenceman Ian Maracle from the Mississauga IceDogs in exchange for Daryl Knowles and a conditional draft pick. A native of Kingston, Ontario, Maracle was originally selected by the IceDogs in the 2nd Round of the 2001 OHL Priority Selection, 35th overall.

The 2002-03 campaign represented Maracle's first full season in the OHL. In the 52 regular season games in which he participated, Maracle tallied 6 points and 50 penalty minutes. The 6'3" defenceman competed in only 7 regular season games with the IceDogs the season before. He will be in the Majors lineup this evening when they battle his former team, the IceDogs. The puck drops at 7:30 pm at St. Michael's College School Arena.

"We feel that Ian adds even greater depth to our defence corps," stated Dave Cameron, Director of Hockey Operations and Head Coach of the Majors. "Due to his age, he should be a valuable member of the team for a couple of seasons."

Knowles was a member of the Majors the previous two seasons. In the 71 regular season games in which he competed, he registered 15 points and 81 penalty minutes. At the time of the trade, he was a member of the Provincial Junior A Hockey League's Georgetown Raiders.
