Major Milestones Set During Regular Season

NEW YORK - The 2006 AFL regular season saw some of the League's most prestigious records fall including most touchdown passes in a single season and a career, most total touchdowns and most career rushing yards.

Following are the major AFL and franchise records broken during the 2006 regular season:

TOUCHDOWNS PASSES: Dallas Desperados QB CLINT DOLEZEL recorded six touchdown passes in a Week 16 win against the New York Dragons, bringing his 2006 regular season total to 105, and breaking the mark of 104 set in 2001 by New York Dragons QB AARON GARCIA.

ALL-TIME SHOWDOWN: On February 11, 2006, the New York Dragons defeated the Utah Blaze in the second-highest scoring contest in AFL history, 84-81 (165 points). The highest scoring contest occurred on July 7, 2001, when the Dragons defeated the Carolina Cobras 99-68 (167 points).

The New York-Utah contest also marked the first time in league history that two quarterbacks passed for 10 touchdowns in the same game. JOE GERMAINE was the quarterback for Utah, while AARON GARCIA was the quarterback for New York.

700 CLUB: Coming into the season, QB AARON GARCIA was the all-time AFL leader in touchdown passes, until an injury ended his season in Week 5 against Orlando. Since the injury, Dallas Desperados QB CLINT DOLEZEL and Arizona Rattlers QB SHERDRICK BONNER joined the 700 touchdown club. Additionally, Utah Blaze QB ANDY KELLY took the all-time lead from Garcia, with Dolezel moving into second place.

PASSING YARDS: San Jose SaberCats QB MARK GRIEB (4,841) and Tampa Bay Storm QB SHANE STAFFORD (4,793) both eclipsed the record for passing yards in a single-season (4,769), which was set by Grieb in 2005.

TACKLES: Colorado Crush DS RASHAD FLOYD (136.5) broke the single-season total tackles record set in 2005 by DS DAMON MASON (133.5) after recording 10.5 total tackles in a Week 16 win over Arizona. Floyd holds three of the top five spots on the single-season list.

WHAT A CATCH: Colorado Crush OS DAMIAN HARRELL (10,327), Los Angeles Avengers WR/LB GREG HOPKINS (10,307), and Nashville Kats WR/LB CORY FLEMING (10,253) all passed the 10,000-yard receiving mark this season, ranking them third, fourth, and fifth, respectively, on the all-time receivers list.

MONUMENTOUS FEAT: FB/LB BOB MCMILLEN, who is in his 12th AFL season and fourth with Chicago, became the AFL's all-time leading rusher with a two-yard touchdown run in a Week 8 loss at Nashville. He also became the first player in AFL history to rush for over 1,400 yards in his career.

ALL-PURPOSE MAN: San Jose SaberCats WR/DB BARRY WAGNER, a 15-year AFL veteran, etched his name onto another page of the AFL record book when he passed HUNKIE COOPER to become the League's all-time leader in all-purpose yards in the SaberCats' Week 7 loss to Los Angeles. He now has 20,961 career all-purpose yards.

SIAHA RELIEF: Utah Blaze OS SIAHA BURLEY eclipsed the single-season expansion records for receptions (136), touchdowns (44), and receiving yards (1,934). The previous records for receptions (125), touchdowns (42), and receiving yards (1,630) for an expansion team were all set in 2001 by OS ROBERT GORDON of the Detroit Fury. Also, Burley's single-season receiving yardage total ranks second all-time to OS CALVIN SCHEXNAYDER, who accumulated 1,982 in 1998 for the Arizona Rattlers.

SCORING MACHINE: Colorado OS DAMIAN HARRELL surpassed AFL records in scoring (366 points), receiving touchdowns (60), and total touchdowns (61) in 2006. The single-season record for points (310) was held by WR/DB BARRY WAGNER in 1997, while playing for the Orlando Predators. The single-season record for most touchdowns in a season (51), was shared by EDDIE BROWN (Albany, 1996) and BARRY WAGNER (Orlando, 1997).

Harrell also had 152 receptions and 1,920 receiving yards, which rank second and third respectively, among single-season totals in AFL history. Las Vegas Gladiators OS MARCUS NASH set the receptions record (154) in 2004 and OS CALVIN SCHEXNAYDER set the receiving record (1,982) in 1998, while playing for the Arizona Rattlers.

Harrell also has caught at least one touchdown in 65 consecutive games tying OS EDDIE BROWN and can break the all-time record in the playoffs.

LEAGUE OF THEIR OWN: Chicago Rush Head Coach MIKE HOHENSEE became the third-coach in AFL history to win 100 games in a Week 13 win over Las Vegas. San Jose Head Coach DARREN ARBET joined the top five with his 90th career victory in a Week 14 win over Los Angeles.

ROOKIE RECEIVING RECORD: Austin Wranglers OS DERRICK LEWIS caught three passes for 46 yards in a Week 16 win at Orlando, giving him 1,411 receiving yards this season, and breaking the AFL's rookie receiving mark set last year by Georgia Force OS TROY BERGERON (1,372).

San Jose SaberCats rookie WR/LB BEN NELSON (1,405) passed Bergeron in the SaberCats' Week 16 win over the Columbus Destroyers, giving him second place on the single-season list after making only 11 starts.

Kansas City Brigade OS JEREL MYERS set a new rookie single-season receptions record (122). The previous record was set last season by Georgia Force WR/LB DEREK LEE (113).

TOTAL OFFENSE SEASON: The San Jose SaberCats amassed 355 yards of offense in a Week 16 win over the Columbus Destroyers, and established a new AFL record for total offensive yards in a single season with 5,075. They became the first team in AFL history to total more than 5,000 yards in a single season. The previous high was set last season by Las Vegas with 4,996.

FORCE OF NATURE: The Georgia Force tied the current AFL single-season record for interceptions returned for touchdowns this season with seven. Three other teams, most recently the 2003 San Jose SaberCats, share the record.

LUCKY 13: With a win last week against the New York Dragons, the Dallas Desperados tied the 2002 San Jose SaberCats (13-1) for most wins in an AFL regular season.

KICKING STRONG: K CARLOS MARTINEZ set new AFL records in PAT and conversions. He attempted 130, passing K DARON ALCORN's record of 126 set in 2003, while playing for the San Jose SaberCats. Martinez topped his own League record of 111 conversions set in 2005, with 117 this season.

ARIZONA RECORDS: QB SHERDRICK BONNER set a new single-season record for passing yards (3,991), breaking his old record of 3,833 yards set in 2004.

AUSTIN RECORDS: The Wranglers broke many team records this season, including WR/DB KEVIN NICKERSON (24) passing his own single-season total touchdown record (23), QB JOHN FITZGERALD setting a new passing completion percentage mark (66.7%) bettering his own old record (65.9%) set in 2005, OS DERRICK LEWIS setting a new receiving yardage record (1,411), and FB/LB DANE KRAGER registering new marks in rushing attempts (59) and rushing yards (197).

Additionally, K TODD SIEVERS set single-season team records in field goals attempted (25), field goals made (14), PAT attempted (105), and PATs made (90).

WR/DB SEDRICK ROBINSON has also set new team marks in kick returns (78), kick returns yards (1,800), kick return touchdowns (6), and all-purpose yards (2,235).

Finally, DS DAMON MASON has set new single-season defensive records with 94.5 tackles and eight interceptions. Mason also became the first player in AFL history with over 800 tackles (822.0).

COLORADO CRUSH RECORDS: QB JOHN DUTTON set several new single-season records. He recorded 4,421 passing yards (4,195 set in 2004), 614 pass attempts (585 set in 2004), 390 completions (367 set in 2005), and 95 touchdown passes (89 set in 2005). Dutton also completed the longest pass in team history on 5/6 against San Jose to WR/DB AHMAD HAWKINS for 48 yards. The previous record was a 47-yard play from Dutton to OS JOE DOUGLAS against Arizona on 3/16/03.

WR/DB WILLIS MARSHALL set new single-season records with 79 kick returns passing OS JOE DOUGLAS (73 set in 2003), 1,580 kick return yards passing Douglas (1,432 set in 2003), and 2,688 all-purpose yards passing Douglas (2,552 set in 2003).

COLUMBUS RECORDS: QB JOHN KALEO set numerous franchise records, including single-season passes attempted (525), passes completed (319), and two-point conversions (4).

On defense, DS BRANDON HEFFLIN and WR/DB B.J. BARRE tied the single-season record for forced fumbles (4), which was set last season by Hefflin. Hefflin also matched his franchise record for recovered fumbles (6), which he also set last season. Rookie WR/DB JERALD BROWN set new franchise records in interceptions (11) and interception return yards (133).

DALLAS RECORDS: The Dallas Desperados set a new club record with the largest margin of victory over an opponent when they defeated the New York Dragons by 44 points (82-38) in their season finale on May 13.

QB CLINT DOLEZEL set a new team record for single-season pass attempts (572). He also tied a team record for fewest interceptions in a season (11) set by QB GLENN GAUNTT in 2004. Dolezel was also sacked the fewest times in Desperados' history (2).

OS TERRILL SHAW set new club records in receptions (111) passing WR/DB JASON SHELLEY (103 set in 2004), receiving yards (1,498) passing Shelley (1,304 set in 2004), and touchdowns (37) passing OS BOBBY SIPPIO (32 set in 2004).

DS JERMAINE JONES, the Desperados' career leader in interceptions (19), set a new single-season record in the category (8). Jones also broke his own club record in tackles (74.5 set in 2004) with 99.5 stops.

OL/DL COLSTON WEATHERINGTON became the Desperados' all-time sack leader this season bringing his career total to 16.5 sacks.

GEORGIA RECORDS: OS DEREK LEE recorded 127 receptions this season, breaking his franchise single-season record of 113 set last season. OS CHRIS JACKSON surpassed Lee's single-season franchise record for receiving touchdowns with 36 scores, compared with Lee's 33 set last season.

GRAND RAPIDS RECORDS: The Rampage set several team records including, 18.0 sacks (16.0 set in 2002), 30 takeaways (28 set in 2003), 19 interceptions (16 set in 2003), 183 interception return yards (116 set in 1998), 13 forced fumbles (12 set in 2000 and 2003), eight touchdown passes for more than 40 yards (four set in 2004), 105 kick off returns (96 set in 2004), and 243.1 passing yards allowed per game (253.1 set in 2003).

WR/DB JOHNNIE HARRIS set a new single-season record with six interceptions passing DS MARK RICKS and OS MICHAEL BAKER who each had 5 in 2003 and 1999, respectively. Harris also set a new record with 60 interception return yards, passing WR/DB DEMO ODEMS (45 set in 2000).

WR/DB TIMON MARSHALL set new Rampage records for kick returns (70) and all-purpose yards (2,734). Marshall surpassed OS STEVE SMITH (63 returns set in 2004) and WR/LB THOMAS BAILEY (2,504 yards set in 1999).

K PETER MARTINEZ set the franchise single-season record for most points scored by a Rampage kicker with 144. He passed K BRIAN GOWINS, who scored 143 points in 2001.

NASHVILLE RECORDS: OL/DL JAMES BARON set the career record for most games played as a Kat (95) and sacks (29.5). WR/DB CORY FLEMING became the career leader in points scored among non-kickers (786), most touchdowns (124), most pass receptions (452), and most passing yards gained (5,487). FB/LB RUPERT GRANT became the all-time leader in rushing attempts (136), rushing yards (395), and rushing touchdowns (37). WR/LB DARRYL HAMMOND became the all-time leader in recovered fumbles (10) and tackles (273.5).

NEW YORK RECORDS: K JESSE OBERT set a new Dragons record with 29 consecutive PAT kicks made this season. QB NICK BROWDER recorded the best record for a quarterback in his first season with the franchise going 7-3 in games he played in and 6-3 in games he started.

Head Coach WEYLAN HARDING became the first coach in AFL history to record ten-or-more wins in his first two seasons as a head coach. He has had 10-6 records in each of the last two season and is 20-12 overall.

ORLANDO RECORDS: Orlando Predators QB JOE HAMILTON became the franchise's all-time leader in passing yards (9,830), as well as setting the single-season record for passing yards (3,670) in a Week 15 win over the Kansas City Brigade.

SAN JOSE RECORDS: FB/LB PHIL GLOVER set a new single-season record with 55 rushing attempts, passing FB/LB KEALA KEANAAINA who had 49 in 2003. QB MARK GRIEB passed his own franchise record for pass attempts in a season (546 set in 2005) with 606 this season. DS CLEVAN THOMAS set a new single-season record for solo tackles (77.0) passing WR/DB OMARR SMITH (71.0 set in 2004).

TAMPA BAY RECORDS: QB SHANE STAFFORD set new franchise records in pass completions with 1,357 passing QB JAY GRUDEN (1,180), passing touchdowns with 289 passing Gruden (280), and passing yards with 15,669 passing Gruden (15,623).

Stafford became the first quarterback in AFL history to pass for 400 yards in back-to-back games. He threw for 458 yards in a Week 4 overtime loss to Orlando followed by a 424 passing-yard performance in a Week 5 win over Austin.

WR/LB LAWRENCE SAMUELS set new franchise records with 8,626 receiving yards passing WR/LB STEVIE THOMAS (7,784) and with 379.5 tackles passing DS TRACEY PERKINS (348.0).

EXPANSION RECORDS: The Utah Blaze and Kansas City Brigade each set new records for expansion teams. The Blaze set new marks for completion percentage (66.7%), passing yards (4,887), passing touchdowns (93), QB rating (119.2), receiving yards (4,877), receiving touchdowns (93), PAT attempts (113), and PATs made (106).

The Brigade set new marks in passing attempts (635), passing completions (404), receptions (404), and total tackles (542.0).
