Major League Rugby Suspends 2020 Season for 30 Days

March 12, 2020 - Major League Rugby (MLR)
NOLA Gold News Release

First of all, the entire NOLA Gold Rugby team, coaching staff and front office would like to thank you for being such loyal & supportive fans through thick & thin. And unfortunately today, we are enduring one of those "thin" moments. As you are well aware, because of the current Coronavirus pandemic, nearly every major professional franchise and collegiate athletic program has either cancelled or postponed the rest of their regular seasons and postseason tournaments.

Some of these are permanent cancellations, and others are postponing a portion of their games, while taking a "wait and see" approach. Major League Rugby has decided to take the latter approach, temporarily suspending the season for the next 30 days until April 11th. MLR will then decide how to move forward, however, NOLA Gold is fully expecting to play final their 8 games of the regular season, as well as the playoffs. The league is also in the process of deciding whether to reschedule any, or all, of the missing matches.

The good news for Gold fans, is that the team has a bye week during that 30-day stretch, and will likely miss only one home match in our new stadium, the "Gold Mine on Airline" (March 28th vs the Toronto Arrows). Of course, anyone who has already purchased a ticket for that Toronto match will be made completely whole again (and if the Arrows game is rescheduled in New Orleans, you will automatically be given a ticket for that match). The MLR & NOLA Gold apologize for this major inconvenience to our fans, but our hearts go out to all those affected by this virus. Remember, we are all in this together!
