Lewiston MAINEiacs News Release

Lewiston, ME (QMJHL) - For the second time this season, a top ranked team came into Lewiston and walked away empty-handed. On Friday night, the Lewiston MAINEiacs played host to the Saint John Sea Dogs - the team ranked first in the entire CHL. Thanks to five goals by the offense and 44 saves by Nicholas Champion, the MAINEiacs were the victors, ending their own four-game losing streak, while ending the Sea Dogs' 10-game winning streak. Lewiston picked up the 5-2 win in front of 2,007 fans at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee.

The game was scoreless until the latter stages of the opening period. Nicholas Champion made an incredible save on Stanislav Galiev. Just moments later, Francis Beauviller sprung Antoine Houde-Caron on a breakaway. Houde-Caron went to his forehand, slipping a shot through Frederic Piche's legs. Champion picked up an assist on the play for his first point as a MAINEiac. A little over one minute later, Lewiston extended the lead, as Olivier Dame-Malka picked up a loose puck at the blueline, before rifling a slap shot into the top of the cage.

Less than one minute into the second period, the Sea Dogs cut the lead to one. Simon Despres picked up a loose puck at the side of the crease, and potted a power play goal. The score remained that way until the latter stages of the frame, when the MAINEiacs lit the lamp two more times. A battle along the boards led to a puck bouncing to the right side of the crease. Sam Henley was in the right place at the right time, as he capitalized on the opportunity. 1:08 later, Michael Chaput set up Etienne Brodeur, who drilled home a one-timer for a 4-1 lead after two periods of play.

The two sides exchanged goals in the third period, as Jonathan Huberdeau cut the lead to 4-2, before Michael Chaput capped off the scoring with a one-timer goal of his own. The feed to Chaput came from Etienne Brodeur, who had a three-point game.

Nicholas Champion was magnificent between the pipes for the MAINEiacs, stopping 44 of the 46 shots he faced in the win. Frederic Piche suffered the loss for Saint John, allowing five goals on 36 shots.

The MAINEiacs will conclude their four-game homestand on Wednesday night, when they face the PEI Rocket at 7:00.
