MAINEiacs Defeat Chicoutimi 5-3

LEWISTON, ME - The Lewiston MAINEiacs opened up the four game homestand with a 5-3 victory over the Chicoutimi Sagueneens at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee Friday night. Matthew Bissonnette finished with a goal and an assist.

The MAINEiacs took a 1-0 lead on a goal by Lewiston native Eric Bonawitz at 13:45 of the first. The goal was the first career QMJHL goal by Bonawitz. Chicoutimi tied the game nearly three minutes later on Marc-Andre Levasseur's shorthanded breakaway goal.

The MAINEiacs regained the lead, when Matthew Bissonnette zipped the puck past goaltender Christopher Gibson on the power play. Sam Carrier continued his hot play, scoring his 10th goal of season at 6:53 giving Lewiston a 3-1 lead. Former MAINEiacs defenseman Eric Gelinas burned his old team, with a power play goal after scoring on a backhand shot past Adrien Lemay.

Jess Tanguy extended the MAINEiacs lead to 5-3 on his 15th goal of the season late in the second period. Chicoutimi started the third with a 5-on-3 power play, and converted 53 seconds into the period. Antoine Roussel received a cross crease feed from Dominic Jalbert and fired into the net pulling the Sags within one 4-3 Lewiston's defense shut down Chicoutimi the rest of the way out, and Michael Chaput sealed with an empty net goal, to secure the 5-3 win.
