Port Huron Prowlers News Release
Port Huron, MI - Ahmed Mahfouz scored twice and Andy DiCristofaro would make 42 saves as the Port Huron Prowlers beat Dayton at home 4-3.
First period was a see-saw battle for puck possession but it would be the Prowlers who put themselves on the board to break the ice. Jared Hicks put the Prowlers up 1-0 six minutes into the first period. It would be his 4th goal in three games. Dayton, however would get the equalizer. An absolute clapper from Myles McCauley from the center ice line found its way, just barley past DiCristofaro, over the left pad and that's where the scoring would end, in the first period. 1-1.
In the second period Ahmed Mahfouz dressed for his first game in almost a month and he would score his 17th goal of the season. It would be a rebound chance off the stick of Justin Alonzo that St. Pierre made the initial save on, but it came right to Mahfouz and he buried it to put the Prowlers up top 2-1 in the second period, and they would keep the lead going into the dressing room after two periods.
In the third a hooking penalty to Brian Marks would give Port Huron a power play and they cashed in on it. Scott Witmyer would put the Prowlers up by two goals with just under 14 minutes left to play in the third period. Dayton wasn't going to make it easy for Port Huron as Jacques Lamoureux found twine twice, two minutes twenty-seven seconds apart. Before you knew it a two goal lead was quickly evaporated and we were tied at 3 with 11:32 left to go in the final frame.
The Prowlers power play would strike again a three-line pass from Andy DiCristofaro would go tape to tape to Ahmed Mahfouz. He would find room in the high slot to wrist one past St. Pierre for what would eventually be the game winning goal. Andy Dicristofaro would make 42 saves to combat St. Pierre's 45 save effort. Not all bad news for the Demolition with Berlin losing in regulation to Brewster tonight, Dayton remains only 3 points back of the River Drivers for the final playoff spot.
Port Huron will hit the road tomorrow night as they make all three stops on a trip out to the east coast. They will play Brewster, Danbury, and Berlin consecutively while Dayton will have three home games in a row this weekend against both Danville and Danbury.
