Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release
Lake Elsinore, CA - Matt Magill enjoyed an incredible California League debut on Tuesday night, as the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes got back in the win column with a 5-2 win over the Lake Elsinore Storm at The Diamond in Lake Elsinore.
Magill (1-0) carried a no-hitter into the fifth and allowed just one base hit over six shutout innings, earning his first win in a Quakes' uniform.
Blake Smith finished 2-for-4 and had his best game this year, as he launched his first homer of the year and also recorded an outfield assist. Smith's two-run blast off Storm starter Matt Lollis put the Quakes in the driver's seat early, as they had a 2-0 lead after just a half-inning.
Leading 2-0 in the sixth, the Quakes extended their lead by scoring three more runs and chasing Lollis (0-2) from the game. Tony Delmonico's two-run double highlighted the frame, giving the Quakes a 4-0 lead. Delmonico later scored when Austin Gallagher brought him in with a run-scoring hit off the wall in right field, putting the Quakes up 5-0.
Robert Romero relieved Magill in the seventh, but couldn't keep the potential shutout. The Storm offense jumped on Romero in the eighth with a pair of runs, as they crept to within three at 5-2. Romero got out of the eighth, then turned it over to Steven Ames, who fanned two in a scoreless ninth to earn his second save of the year.
Now at 3-3 on the current road trip, the Quakes look to get over .500 for the first time this year, sending Allen Webster (0-1) to the mound against Jose De Paula (0-0), with game time on Wednesday scheduled for 6:05pm.
Don't forget that the Quakes open their 70-game home schedule this Thursday, April 14th, taking on the Lancaster JetHawks at 7:05pm. Opening Night is a Buffalo Wild Wings Thirsty Thursday, as fans will enjoy $2 domestic 16-oz drafts thanks to Buffalo Wild Wings. Fans will also score 2011 Quakes' Magnet Schedules from Allstar KIA and a post-game Fireworks Celebration, thanks to Q 104.7. Tickets are available by calling (909) 481-5000 or online at rcquakes.com.
