Lancaster JetHawks News Release

(LANCASTER, CA) - The JetHawks scored five runs in the bottom of the eighth to overcome a two-run deficit and post an 8-5 win over San Jose at Clear Channel Stadium Tuesday night. With the win, Lancaster evened the three-game series and will go for the series victory when the teams meet in the rubber match at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Lancaster grabbed the early lead by scoring twice in the opening frame. Jay Austin hit a bloop double to start the frame and advance to third on a wild pitch from Giants starter Michael Main. Jonathan Villar drove in Austin with a sacrifice fly. Later in the inning, Jake Goebbert singled and advanced to second on an errant pickoff throw by Main. Jonathan Meyer delivered an RBI single that scored Goebbert and gave the JetHawks a 2-0 advantage.

In his second start with Lancaster, Jose Cisnero continued to rack up strikeouts. The right-hander struck out 11 San Jose batters in 5+ innings of work. Cisnero has now struck out a California League-leading 20 batters through two starts in 2011.

San Jose got on the scoreboard when Luke Anders hit a solo home run off Cisnero in the fifth. One inning later, the Giants finally got to Cisnero when Gary Brown hit a leadoff single and Nick Liles drew a walk. Following a pitching change, JetHawks reliever Colt Pitkin issued a walk to Jarrett Parker before giving up a grand slam to Tommy Joseph, which put the Giants in front 5-2.

After getting out of the sixth without any further damage, Pitkin tossed two scoreless frames to keep the JetHawks within striking distance.

Trailing 5-3 in the bottom of the eighth, Austin - who was 3-for-4 with two runs scored on the night - singled to start the inning. Villar followed with a game-tying two-run home run off Giants reliever Jose Casilla. The JetHawks got an RBI double from Erik Castro and RBI singles from Ben Heath and Austin Wates to take an 8-5 lead.

Kirk Clark worked a scoreless ninth inning to seal the victory and pick up his second save of the season for Lancaster. Pitkin (1-0) earned the win in relief while Casilla (0-2) was charged with the loss. The JetHawks improved to 3-3 while San Jose fell to 4-2.

The JetHawks will try to earn their first series victory of the season in the rubber match of the three-game set at Clear Channel Stadium Wednesday. Game time is set for 7 p.m. Right-hander Andrew Robinson (0-1) gets the start for Lancaster while San Jose is expected to counter with lefty Kelvin Marte (1-0).
