CAPS DASH DES MOINES' PLAYOFF HOPES

Madison dealt a critical blow to the Des Moines Buccaneers' playoff hopes in the Western Conference by defeating the Bucs 3-1 on Friday at Buccaneer Arena. Darren Smith came up with 34 saves and allowed just a second period goal after the Capitols raced out to a 3-0 lead on goals from Freddy Gerard, Haralds Egle, & Miguel Fidler. The ex-Star Fidler picked up his first goal as a Capitol in the victory.

CEDAR RAPIDS & CHICAGO BITE BACK

After picking up a second consecutive win over Des Moines on Friday, the Capitols could not achieve similar success, falling in Cedar Rapids on Saturday and Chicago on Sunday, scoring just two goals in the two nights, both on the power play. The Madison man advantage has connected in five straight games after Tommy Muck and Egle tallied on Saturday and Sunday respectively. Smith remained in the net for the duration of the weekend, turning aside 102 shots in just three games.

CAPITOLS RETURN TO THE COLISEUM FOR A PAIR

Madison begins a push of seven home games out of nine remaining games to end the regular season. First, they welcome the RoughRiders on Friday for the final matchup against Cedar Rapids in the 2014-15 season. Cedar Rapids has won three of the prior five encounters, including on Saturday in Ridertown. It is another $1 Beer Night at the Coliseum through the end of the first intermission. Doors open at 6 p.m.

On Saturday, the Capitols welcome the Sioux City Musketeers, the former team of Capitols' head coach Luke Strand & associate coach Keith Paulsen.
