Indiana Mad Ants News Release
FORT WAYNE, IN - In a terrific back and forth ball game, the Fort Wayne Mad Ants were able to pull away in the end from a tenacious Iowa Energy team 108-101 Friday evening at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum in Fort Wayne.
The Energy came out with all of the energy to start the game, as they jumped out to a quick 19-8 lead in the first quarter. Dominique Morrison led the charge for Iowa by scoring a quick 6 points in that run. The Ants eventually found their legs and began to chip away at the lead. Darryl Partin and Sadiel Rojas came off the bench to each score 7 points and get the Ants to within two in the second quarter, 32-34. The lead in the second quarter went back and forth before the Energy took over and went into halftime with a 53-49 lead. Chris Wright led the Energy with 13 at the half and Morrison added 12 to lead Iowa.
The third quarter remained close between the two teams with Iowa holding a lead throughout. The Ants would get close to taking the lead, but the visiting team was always able to stem the threat. The player who kept answering the bell for Iowa was Justin Hurtt, who had 11 in the quarter. Behind his great play, the Energy took a 80-77 lead into the fourth quarter.
It was the final quarter that the Mad Ants were finally able to get over the hump. With 6 minutes left in the game, Fort Wayne was able to take a lead off of a lay in by Ron Howard. Iowa would not go down easily, however, and the game was nip and tuck until the final minute when Mike Anderson made the defensive play of the game. He was able to steal the ball from Chris Wright as he attempted to spin into the lane, and Howard eventually received the ball, was fouled, and hit two free throws to give the Ants the lead for good.
The Energy were led by their terrific guard tandem of Chris Wright and Mustapha Farrakan, who scored 18 points and 17 points respectively.
The Ants had a very balance attack, with Ron Howard leading the way with 21 points. It was the bench play, however, of Sadiel Rojas and Darryl Partin that gave the Ants a chance to win. Rojas scored 16 points and had 8 rebounds, and Darryl Partin added 16 for the home team.
The same two teams square off tomorrow night in the Iowa Energy's home opener at 8 PM Eastern.
