Indiana Mad Ants News Release
Fort Wayne, IN (January 23, 2012) - The Mad Ants have acquired former Michigan State standout Travis Walton to help handle point guard duties after the recent Gatorade Call Up of Walker D. Russell, Jr. to the Detroit Pistons.
Walton is a 6'2 point guard who played earlier this season in the NBA Development League for the Dakota Wizards and averaged 4.8 points, 2 rebounds, and 1 assist in 19.8 minutes of action per game. Walton has prior professional playing experience in Switzerland and Germany, and he was the teammate of current Mad Ants center Sean Sonderleiter while playing in Germany.
While at Michigan State, Walton made a name for himself by being an excellent defender. He was twice named to the Big Ten All Defensive team and was also named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year in 2009. Walton also demonstrated significant achievements on the offensive side of the court when he broke Magic Johnson's career assist record at Michigan State.
Walton will go with the team on its upcoming three game road trip to play the Rio Grande Valley Vipers and the Tulsa 66ers.
