Chicago Machine News Release
It was a common beginning for the Chicago Machine on Saturday afternoon as they took to the field and brought in the first goal of the game against the Los Angeles Riptide. Kevin Leveille scored on a powerplay after Brian Nee of the Riptide was taken out for a slashing foul. With shots hitting the post one after the other during the first, the score remained 1-0 until the Riptide made a break for the net and brought in two more goals before the end of the quarter.
Stephen Brundage ripped a shot to tie up the game at the beginning of the second, and after Watson reciprocated for Los Angeles, Brundage stepped up again and dished an assist to attackman Kevin Leveille of the Machine for a quick low shot into goal between the legs of Riptide goalkeeper Tillman Johnson. The rest of the half proved to be a struggle for Chicago as the Riptide rolled in four more goals by Hartofilis, Lindsey (2 goals), and Driscoll. The half ended with the Riptide up 7-3.
In the third quarter, Brundage dished in another goal for the Machine, yet it was sandwiched between two goals on either side by the Riptide making it four goals to one in the third. The Machine was out-scored by Los Angeles again in the fourth when they were only able to bring in two goals to the Riptide's five - one of them being a two-point goal made by Kevin Dougherty who achieved the Bud Light player of the game after scoring four goals for Los Angeles against Chicago.
"After last week's game, we came into this one knowing we had the ability to be efficient and make things happen," said Machine Head Coach Kevin Finneran. "But although we know we have the ability to move forward, in this game we only seemed to be stepping back."
After a 6-17 defeat for the Chicago Machine against the Los Angeles Riptide, the Machine will have an opportunity to redeem itself next week as it hosts the Los Angeles Riptide next weekend on their home turf. Face-off is set for 7:00pm at the Sports Complex at Benedictine University - "The Home of the Machine".
