Mississippi Braves News Release

Mobile, AL- The Mississippi Braves and Mobile BayBears played to a stalemate through eight innings on Monday night, but Edward Salcedo's two-out, two-strike RBI double in the ninth put the Braves ahead 1-0, sending them to their seventh consecutive win and a series win at Hank Aaron Stadium.

With one out in the ninth, Jose Martinez scorched a ball to third, reaching on an infield hit and moving to second when Christian Marrero grounded to short. That set up Salcedo's heroics off of BayBears reliever Bryan Woodall.

Meanwhile, Alex Wood and company pitched a gem for the Braves (10-8). Wood threw six shutout innings, striking out eight and allowing just four hits, lowering his season ERA to 0.82 through four starts. Chasen Shreve pitched a scoreless seventh, and Pat Egan slammed the door over the final two frames for his first win of the season.

Until the ninth, the bats were stifled by former Mississippi Brave Zeke Spruill. The right-hander threw eight strong innings for his new team, allowing just three hits.

Former Braves prospect Nick Ahmed also got two hits in the game for Mobile. Ahmed and Spruill were both part of the trade for Justin Upton and Chris Johnson this past winter.

Mobile threatened in the ninth with men on first and second and one out, but Egan got Rossmel Perez to ground into a double play ball to short, ending the game.

The Braves try to make it eight in a row on Tuesday night at 7:05 PM CT in game four of the five-game series with Mobile. Right-hander Gus Schlosser (0-1, 9.58 ERA) squares off against right-hander Anthony Meo (0-0, 3.00). Listen live to Kyle Tait on the call beginning at 6:30 with the "Countdown to First Pitch" on 103.9 WYAB and online at MississippiBraves.com.
