
M-Braves Shut Out Lookouts 1-0

PEARL, MS -- The Mississippi Braves plated its lone run in the second and held strong to shutout the Chattanooga Lookouts 1-0 Saturday evening at Trustmark Park. The series continues with game four Sunday at 5:00 PM.
Mississippi (36-26) scored one run on five hits. Chattanooga (25-38) managed five hits but did not score. Matt Kennelly collected two hits for the M-Braves and David Rohm drove in the only run of the game.
The M-Braves took a 1-0 lead in the second that would stand throughout the game. Kennelly and Kyle Kubitza both singled to put runners at the corners with one out. Rohm followed with a double to deep left field, driving home Kennelly for the game's only run.
J.R. Graham (1-3) limited the Lookouts to three hits while striking out three in five innings pitched to pick up his first win of the 2014 season. Brandon Cunniff and Ryne Harper worked the sixth, seventh and eighth frames to record holds. James Hoyt (S, 4) came on in the ninth to notch his fourth save of the season.
Chris Reed (3-4) gave up one earned run on five hits and two walks. He struck out three in seven innings of work and took the loss.
The Mobile BayBears finished a suspended game from yesterday, defeating the Stars 4-2. Game two was postponed due to inclement weather. The M-Braves still trail the BayBears by one game in the South Division standings with seven games remaining the first half. The BayBears and Stars will attempt to play another doubleheader Sunday afternoon.
M-Braves right-hander Mitch Atkins (0-0, 3.60) counters Lookouts righty Matt Shelton (2-0, 1.80) in game four of this five-game series Sunday afternoon. First pitch is slated for 5:00 PM. Gates open at 4:00 PM.
