
M-Braves Lose Back-And-Forth Game on Walk-Off by Smokies

KODAK, TN - The Mississippi Braves (40-44, 8-9) lost 9-8 on a walk-off walk by the Tennessee Smokies (48-37, 12-5) in a back-and-forth game on Wednesday night at Smokies Stadium.
The game featured three ties and five lead changes. Tennessee took the first two games of the series and has won nine of their last 10 games.
Cal Conley hit a two-run homer to left field to put the M-Braves in front 2-0 in the third. Conley finished 2-for-5 with his second home run and two RBI.
In his Double-A debut, Tyler Owens gave up three runs in 2 2/3 innings. Scott Blewett came in after Owens for his first relief appearance. The right-hander gave up two solo home runs in 2 2/3 innings with six strikeouts.
Down 3-2 in the fifth, the M-Braves exploded for four runs. Landon Stephens smacked his 18th homer to center field to tie the game at 3-3. Stephens moved into a tie for the league lead in home runs. After singles from Conley and Luke Waddell, the M-Braves took the lead on a liner from Tyler Tolve that dropped just inside the left-field line. The M-Braves scored two more runs on a wild pitch and a passed ball to lead 6-3.
The Smokies battled back, hitting a pair of solo homers in the bottom of the fifth to pull within one. In the sixth, Tennesse tacked on three more to take an 8-6 lead.
In his first game back from the injured list, Drew Lugbauer homered in the eighth to pull the M-Braves within one at 8-7. Lugbauer went 2-for-3 and has 14 home runs for the M-Braves despite playing in just 50 games. The homer was Lugbauer's 60th career M-Braves home run.
Jesse Franklin V doubled on the next pitch and scored to tie the game at 8-8 on an RBI groundout by Justin Dean.
In the ninth, two hit batters, a base hit and the final walk ended the game at 9-8.
The third game of the series is on Thursday at Smokies Stadium. RHP Alan Rangel (1-9, 5.58) will make the start Mississippi while RHP Chris Kachmar (2-0, 4.61) will start for Tennessee. The first pitch is at 6:00 pm CT, with coverage starting 15 minutes before on 102.1 The Box, MiLB First Pitch App, and Bally Live.
