Biloxi Shuckers News Release
BILOXI, MS - Despite seven runs in the top of the first inning, the Montgomery Biscuits (44-41, 8-8) stormed back and scored nine of the game's final 10 runs, including a walk-off single, to defeat the Biloxi Shuckers (42-44, 8-9) at Riverwalk Stadium on Wednesday night. The walk-off loss was Biloxi's sixth in 2023, and the two split the first two games of the six-game set.
In the first inning, the Shuckers' offense caught fire, with a lead-off double to right center. Jackson Chourio singled a batter later and a walk to Jeferson Quero loaded the bases. A wild pitch scored Black and a two-RBI double from Isaac Collins extended the lead to 3-0. Freddy Zamora then laced a double to left, scoring two more. Felix Valerio then drove in Zamora with a sacrifice fly to right and a bases-loaded walk to Jeferson Quero gave Biloxi seven in the inning. The seven runs tied their most in a single inning this year.
Montgomery's comeback started in the bottom of the first with an RBI single from Mason Auer, but a double play started by Zamora at short prevented any further damage. In the third, the Biscuits used a three-run home run from Heriberto Hernandez to cut the Shuckers' lead to 7-4, and cut it down to one with a two-run double from Diego Infante in the fifth.
The Shuckers increased the lead to two in the top of the sixth with an RBI single from Quero that scored Black from third. Quero was thrown out trying to stretch it to a double, but it increased the lead to 8-6. In the bottom of the inning, Montgomery knotted the game at eight with a two-RBI single from Junior Caminero.
The teams remained tied, with the Shuckers stranding the go-ahead run at second in the eighth and Montgomery stranding two in the eighth. In the ninth, however, two singles and a hit batter loaded the bases for Tristan Peters, who smashed a single to center, scoring Hernandez from third.
Enmanuel Mejia (3-2) took the win while Nick Bennett (2-3) earned the loss for Biloxi.
The two are set to meet tomorrow at 6:35 p.m. at Riverwalk Stadium with righty Christian Mejias starting for Biloxi against right-handed pitcher Logan Workman. The game can be heard on Cruisin' WGCM 1240 AM, 100.9 FM with coverage beginning at 6:20 p.m. with the Biloxi Shuckers Pregame Show. The game can also be seen live on MiLB.tv.
