M-Braves Drop Series Opener 5-0

PEARL, MS - The Mississippi Braves (25-31) were defeated by the Montgomery Biscuits (27-29) 5-0 in Sunday night's series opener. Despite the loss, M-Braves third baseman, Daniel Lockhart extended his hitting streak to a season high, seven games after going 1-for-4 at the plate.

Montgomery jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning after Nathan Lukes grounded out to M-Braves second baseman, Luis Valenzuela which allowed Brandon Lowe to score.

The Biscuits extended their lead 3-0 in the top of the third inning when Lowe sent a scorching ground ball single to center field, allowing both Jermaine Palacios and Jake Cronenworth to score.

In the top of the seventh inning, Montgomery gained a 5-0 advantage after adding two more insurance runs to their lead courtesy of a Dalton Kelly sacrifice fly and a line drive RBI single from the bat of Lukes.

Montgomery starter, J.D. Martin (4-7, 4.23) earned the win and Mississippi starter, Kyle Wright (3-6, 4.37) suffered the loss.

The Mississippi Braves and the Montgomery Biscuits will meet again on Monday, June 4 at 7:00 p.m. (CT) at Trustmark Park with the Biscuits leading the series 1-0. RHP Bryse Wilson (1-1, 5.55) is set to start for the M-Braves. Opposite of Wilson will be Montgomery RHP Sam McWilliams (0-2, 11.57). Monday night's game will feature SportClips Military Monday presented by SportClips.
