
Lynx Guard Seimone Augustus Named to 2006 Western Conference All-Star Team

Minneapolis/St. Paul - Minnesota Lynx rookie guard Seimone Augustus has been named to the 2006 Western Conference All-Star team as a reserve, the Women's National Basketball Association announced today in New York. The All-Star reserves are selected by coaches in their respective conferences.
"It is truly an honor to be named to the all-star team, especially as a rookie," said Augustus. "I'm excited to go to New York and represent my family, the Minnesota Lynx franchise and all Minnesota Lynx fans." Augustus, the first overall pick of the 2006 WNBA Draft, currently leads the league in scoring (22.7 ppg), and ranks 15th in field goal percentage (.477), 7th in free throw percentage (.881) and 5th in minutes played (32.9 mpg). Joining Augustus on the 2006 Western Conference all-star team are: Starters - Sue Bird (G - Seattle Storm), Dawn Staley (G - Houston Comets), Sheryl Swoopes (F - Houston Comets), Lauren Jackson (F - Seattle Storm), Yolanda Griffith (C - Sacramento Monarchs); Reserves - Diana Taurasi (G - Phoenix Mercury), Cappie Pondexter (G - Phoenix Mercury), Tina Thompson (F - Houston Comets), Sophia Young (F - San Antonio Silver Stars), Lisa Leslie (C - Los Angeles Sparks). The 2006 WNBA All-Star Game Presented by Vonage will be played at historic Madison Square Garden in New York City on Wednesday, July 12 at 6:20 p.m. CST and will be broadcast on ESPN. ESPN's pregame show, WNBA Shootaround, begins at 6 p.m. CST. In addition, the game will be seen in a record 198 countries around the globe with commentary in 33 languages via 57 telecasters. This year's record global television distribution breaks last year's reach of 193 countries through 52 telecasters in 31 languages. The following telecasters will televise the game for the first time: Bahamas (NBA TV-Cable Bahamas, China (Nusports.cn), Iceland (NBA TV- Digital Island, Italy (Sportitalia), Mexico (TVC and NBA TV-PCTV, Middle East (NBA TV-Orbit), Serbia (Sport Klub), and Venezuela (NBA TV-Intercable).
