Lunkers Shine in All-Star Game

Brainerd Lakes Area Lunkers News Release


(Brainerd Lakes Area) - Dan Olinger, third baseman for the Brainerd Lakes Area Lunkers, was selected as the "Star of Stars" after Monday night's Marshfield Clinic Northwoods League All-Star Game in Wisconsin Rapids, Wis. The North Division defeated the South 6-3.

Olinger went 3 for 4 on the evening with two runs scored and also drove in a run. Olinger, the redshirt freshman out of the University of Minnesota, was one of six Lunkers to participate in the All-Star Game.

Lunkers outfielder Steven Brault and Olinger both played the entire game. Brault, the freshman out of Regis University, went 0 for 4 but did score a run and also drew a walk.

Wade Wass, the Lunker catcher and freshman out of Meridian Community College, entered the game in the Bottom of the 5th inning and went 1 for 2, scoring a run.

Three Lunker pitchers also played a part in Monday night's game. Lunker left-hander Joe Willman came into the game in the Bottom of the 2nd inning. The junior out of Northern Colorado surrendered one run in one inning of work, and also stuck out a batter.

Jason Forjet, the Lunker right-hander out of Florida Gulf Coast, came on in the 4th inning and pitched a perfect inning of baseball.

Kye Winter, the right-hander out of Augustana College, got into the game in the Bottom of the 6th and continued on into the 7th, pitching two-thirds of an inning and walking three.

"We are very proud of our guys not just for making the All-Star team, but for their excellent performances during the game as well," said Lunkers General Manager Dustin Anaas.

The Lunkers return home on Wednesday, July 20 against the Alexandria Beetles. First Pitch is set for 7:05. Great tickets still remain! Call 218-824-3474 to hear all about our great specials!
