LumberKings Walk-Off Gems in 12

CLINTON, Iowa- The Clinton LumberKings' snapped their four game losing streak on Friday night in a 6-5 extra-inning victory over the Quincy Gems.

After the Gems jumped out to a 1-0 lead Chase Becker (Minnesota) gave the LumberKings a 2-1 lead in the second. The Clinton left fielder clobbered his first home run of the season, a two-run blast.

The LumberKings extended their lead in the fourth inning. Adam Weed (University of Illinois Chicago) drove in a run with a single and Rayth Petersen (University of Illinois Chicago) drove in two with a single of his own. After four the LumberKings led 5-1.

Quincy scored one run in the fifth inning and in the eighth knotted the game up. Dayson Croes (Quincy University) roped an RBI double. Jaison Andujar (Monroe College) walked with the bases loaded bringing the Gems to within one. The inning ended with a Bennett Eltoft (Southern Illinois) RBI single, tying the game. On the play Jonathan Latham (Indiana University Kokomo) tried to score, LumberKings' left fielder Kyle Lehmann (USC-Upstate) threw Lehmann out at the plate, keeping the game tied at five going into the bottom of the inning.

The game extended into extra innings. Both teams traded scoreless frames until the bottom of the 12th. Nick Fleckenstein (Lassen CC) started things off with a single for Clinton. After the single Adam Weed drew a walk and Rayth Petersen moved both runners over with a sacrifice bunt. The Gems elected to walk Matt Scherrman (UW-Oshkosh) to face Luke Ira (South Dakota St). Ira followed the intentional walk with a long single to right-centerfield, scoring Fleckenstein and giving Clinton a 6-5 walk-off victory.

Clinton reliever Nick Scanlon (Kirkwood CC) earned the win. In relief Scanlon went 4.2 scoreless innings, struck out five batters and allowed just three hits. Scanlon earned the win, his first of the season.

The LumberKings now look to a doubleheader tomorrow against the Springfield Lucky Horseshoes. Game one will start at 4 p.m. Gates will open at 3 p.m.

It is Sauk Valley Media Day at the ballpark and a post-game concert by Todd Striley and the Noize will take place after the game.
