The Quincy Gems came to Nelson Corp Field on Friday night with a record of 2-5 to take on the (4-3) Clinton LumberKings. The LumberKings won the first matchup with the Gems in Quincy 4-2 back on the 29th of May. Matt Scherrman started in that first matchup between the two, and he took the mound again tonight.

A scoreless top of the third inning led us to the bottom of the inning where Cam Kennedy had a 2 RBI Double followed by another Dreher sacrifice fly.

Gems tried to get some of those runs back in the top of the fourth, after a leadoff walk from Ryan Hutchinson, followed by a single from Carter Bither. Scherrman was able to get Andrew Fay to ground into a 6-4-3 double play and retire the next batter to halt the scoring threat in the inning.

In the bottom half of the inning the Lumberkings put up four runs starting with an RBI single from Brett McCleary and a 2 RBI Triple from Kyle Lehman. Tyler Dahm then had a sacrifice fly bringing home Lehman. Bringing us to a 8-1 ball game.

Clinton naitive Max Holy led off the bottom of the 6th with a deep shot to center field bouncing off the wall for a triple. Luke Ira knocked in Holy with an RBI single bringing the lead to 9-1.

The Gems were able to get one run across in the top of the 8th and had a 3-run homerun from Matt Schark in the top of the 9th. Nolan Frey was able to settle down after the homer and finish out the game at a final score of 9-5 in favor of the LumberKings.
