
LumberKings Strike Out 16 in Opening Night Loss

CLINTON, IOWA- The Prospect League got under way Wednesday night, as the Clinton LumberKings hosted the Normal CornBelters in the season opener at NelsonCorp Field.
The scoring opened up in the top half of the second inning. CornBelters' right-fielder, Hank Himrich (Bradley University) drove in the first run of the ball game, driving in catcher Peyton Meredith (Saint Leo University) on a ground out to second base against Clinton starter Jacob Norris (Des Moines Area CC).
Following the second, the CornBelters scored in four other frames, highlighted by four runs in the third and the fourth innings en route to a 12-1 final on Opening Night.
The lone LumberKings' tally came off the bat of Nick Fleckenstein (Lassen CC). In the bottom half of the fourth, he drove in Taeg Gollert (Missouri State) on a base hit, making it 9-1 heading into the fifth.
Norris for the LumberKings ended up striking out five CornBelters in his start, and the LumberKings ended up striking out 16 Normal batters in total.
Clinton will be back in action tomorrow night at 6:30 p.m. as they once again host the Normal CornBelters. The LumberKings will put Kobey Schlotman (Mount Mercy University) on the mound.
It will be Ascentra Credit Union Night, with a poster schedule giveaway at the front gate.
