
LumberKings Get a Much Needed Win

The LumberKings traveled to Burlington, IA. to take on the Burlington Bees for the 5th time this season. Coming into the game the two teams had split the earlier match ups and were tied in the Great River Division coming into tonight at 7-5.
Matt Schermann (2-0) got the start for the LumberKings going 5.2 innings and allowing 5 runs.
In the top of the second Brett McCleary hit his first homerun of the season, a solo shot to left field. Austin Simpson of Burlington followed that up in the bottom of the second with a two run shot to right center to give Burlington their first lead of the night 2-1.
After pitching changes from both sides down the stretch, the LumberKings walked in a run in the bottom of the 6th and Marcos Sanchez knocked in two runs in the bottom of the 7th to cut the LumberKing lead 8-7.
The LumberKings brought across an earned, and an unearned run in the top of the 9th to extend their lead 10-7. Jackson Jones led off the bottom of the 9th with a deep fly ball to right field to cut the lead to 10-8. Jacob Lodge settled down on the mound and got the save for the LumberKings.
Matt Scherrmann improves to (3-0), Jacob Lodge get his first save and the LumberKings improve to 8-5 and have a chance to be in first place in the Great River Division after tonight's prospect league action concludes. The Bees drop to third place (7-6) in the Great River Division.
The LumberKings are back at home for a weekend series Friday June 11th and Saturday June 12th with the Springfield Sliders, first pitch set for 6:30 p.m.
