
LumberKings Fall to 7-5

The LumberKings returned home for a game against the Illinois Valley Pistol Shrimp, the first matchup between the two during prospect league play. It was a pitching duel for the first five frames.
Ryan Miller got his first start on the mound for the LumberKings going five innings and striking out eight Pistol Shrimps. Miller also allowed only one hit during his stint on the mound.
The LumberKings were able to bring across one run in the bottom of the 5th. Anthony Mangano reached on a bunt single to load the bases. Rayth Petersen followed that up with a sacrifice fly to left field to score Conant and bring home the first run of the game.
TJ Deardorff stepped in relieving Miller and posted a scoreless top of the 6th frame, but the Pistol Shrimp were able to tie the game up in the 7th, and Damen Castillo had a 2-RBI single to extend the lead to 3-1 in the top of the 8th.
The LumberKings started off the bottom of the 9th with a leadoff single from Conant, but McCleary then hit into a 6-4-3 double play the next LumberKing was retired and so was the comeback.
Mitch Benson came in during the bottom of the 8th and finished it up for the Pistol Shrimp getting the win on the mound. The loss goes to TJ Deardorff. The LumberKings fall to (7-5) and the Pistol Shrimp improve to (4-9) on the season.
The LumberKings hit the road tomorrow to face Burlington first pitch at 7:05. The team returns home for a weekend home series on Friday, June 11th and 12th against the Springfield Sliders first pitch for both of those games will be at 6:30 at Nelson Corp Field.
