LumberKings Fall Short in Burlington
July 2, 2021 - Prospect League (Prospect)
Clinton LumberKings News Release
The LumberKings returned to Burlington Friday night to take on the Burlington Bees.
The LumberKings were only able to knock one run in during the first seven innings of play. That came in the third inning on an RBI single from Bryce Dreher knocking in Brayden Frazier.
Two solo shots from Marcos Sanchez and Kevin Santiago in the 2nd and 4th innings respectively gave the Bees a 2-1 lead heading into the 7th.
In the 7th, Lincoln Riley added another homer for the bees and increased the lead 4-1 after a two run shot.
Some bullpen issues for the LumberKings came about in the later frames as Matt Scherrman's night ended after pitch count after the 6th. Walking in runs in the later frames proved to be the final blow.
Final score from Community field 11-5 as the LumberKings tried to make a final push in the top of the eighth but fell just a bit short.
With the loss, the LumberKings drop to 12-19 and the Bees improve to 17-15. Matt Scherrman drops to (3-2) and Jalen Evans improves to (2-0).
First pitch for tomorrows game scheduled for 6:35 in Burlington as the teams will face off once again.
