Clinton LumberKings News Release
CLINTON, IOWA- Game three between the Clinton LumberKings and the Illinois Valley Pistol Shrimp took place Friday night at NelsonCorp Field in a rubber match between the two.
In the early innings it was a pitchers' duel. The LumberKings sent lefty Jackson Kent (University of Arizona) out to the mound and he was superb in his second start of the season. Kent went four scoreless frames, striking out eight while allowing just two hits.
For Illinois Valley, Ty Weatherly (Ball State) was just as good. The tall righty went three frames and struck out eight batters in his start.
The two teams remained tied until the Pistol Shrimp broke through in the fifth. Facing Matt Scherrman (UW-Oshkosh), designated hitter Ivan Witt (Creighton University) drove in two runs with a double. The hit proved to be the difference, with Illinois Valley tacking on more late and taking the game 5-0.
Clinton now hosts the O'Fallon Hoots tomorrow night with first pitch scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
